Dr. Benjamin Taylor – Partner & Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Benjamin Taylor, his wife Elizabeth and daughter have proudly called Wilmington home since 2018. He is an avid surfer, musician, and outdoorsman and loves to take advantage of all the incredible activities that coastal North Carolina has to offer. He currently serves as a clinical examiner for the NC Board of Optometry.
Dr. Taylor uses his expertise in optics to design custom contact lenses for people that have previously been told that contact lenses will not work. He utilizes scleral contact lenses for “hard to fit” patients that have corneal diseases or injuries, as well as those that have severe dry eye disease. If you have a corneal abnormality or disease, Dr. Taylor likely has a solution for you.
Additionally, Dr. Taylor is an expert in orthokeratology (“Ortho-K”), which is a non-surgical vision corrective technique. Ortho-K involves custom designed rigid gas permeable lenses that are slept in, like a retainer. These gently mold your cornea to provide vision correction and freedom from glasses all day long. Dr. Taylor utilizes ortho-keratology as a means of myopia management as well, which prevents the progression of nearsightedness in our growing children.
As an alumnus of North Carolina State University, Dr. Taylor is a proud member of the Wolfpack and he graduated Cum Laude from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Taylor received extensive training in ocular disease and specialty contact lenses at The Eye Center in Memphis, TN and at WG Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. Additionally, Dr. Taylor was trained here at Paul Vision Institute in ocular disease and low vision rehabilitation by Dr. Paul. He is an active member of the AOA, NCOS, and was previously a chair member for the Young Optometrist Committee in the North Carolina Optometric Society.
Dr. Taylor approaches eye care with your overall health and well-being as his priority. He incorporates modern medicine and evidence-based literature to care for your eyes and how they pertain to your wellness in general. He practices full-scope optometry with a wide range of services available from vision correction with glasses and conventional contact lenses, specialty contact lenses, dry eye disease, myopia management, emergency eye care, diabetic eye care, treatments of infections, uveitis, and ocular surface disorders, glaucoma treatment, and post-surgical care. Dr. Taylor is passionate about helping patients achieve their best possible vision so that they can live happy and healthy lives. Dr. Taylor aims to deliver the best concierge-level eye care services to each one of his patients. He is accepting new patients and looks forward to seeing you very soon!
